DANIEL

Daniel formed out of a group called Delta in Newcastle in the mid 70s. In 1976 the band moved to Melbourne to seek fame and fortune. Discovered by Mike Rudd of Spectrum/Ariel fame he became their manager and sought a recording deal with the Image label. The band also gained a Yamaha sponsorship. Soon after in 1977, keyboard player Jose McLaughlin joined the band. Jose had a wonderful musical pedigree. He migrated from England in 1974 after having played with Gerry and the Pacemakers for about 7 years. He had also been in and recorded with various bands including Melbourne hybrid jazz/rock/latin band Pantha. He was asked to join Daniel as they were recording their first album 'Last Night In The City produced by Mike Rudd.

Daniel played all over Australia (at all the usual rock venues at those times), and also did clinics for Yamaha in each city that they went to. The band also played the Nightmoves #2 Concert at the Palais in St. Kilda along with Skyhooks, Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons and the Sports. The concert was recorded and released as an LP in 1978. Daniel has one track on the album ''Last Night In The City''. The band eventually broke up when the Yamaha deal ended, and a couple of the band members decided to return to Newcastle.
